Block Stitch Lap Blanket

This is a small/medium sized lap blanket that works up in a flash. I’ve made mine with baby weight yarn so it is soft and light. It would also double as a baby blanket!

This pattern requires two different colours to really make it pop. This stitch is worked up in multiples of 3+1 so the pattern can be adjusted in size by increasing/decreasing in multiples of 3+1.

Materials:

Gauge:

4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) 16 sc x 19 rows with 4 mm crochet hook

Finished measurements:

Abbreviations:

beg = beginning

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

sk = skip

sp = space

dc = double crochet

slst = slip stitch

Pattern:

MAIN SECTION

With Colour B chain 106 to start

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *sc, ch2, sk 2 ch* repeat to last 2 stitches, 2 sc, turn

Row 2: Change to colour A, ch3, *3dc in ch2 sp from previous row* repeat to last 2 sc, dc in last sc, turn

Row 3: Change colour B, sc, *sc ch2, sk 2 ch* repeat to last 2 stitches, 2 sc, turn. That’s it!

The pattern repeats row 2 & 3 until the length reaches approx. 31inches or desired length.

Bind off, weave in edges.

BORDER:

The boarder is worked with two rounds of dc in each stitch and 3 dc in every corner to prevent pulling. You can start in any corner. For the top and bottom, dc in every stitch. For the sides, evenly space your double crochets, they work out to be 2 dc for every row worked.

Round 1: Beginning in any corner slst with Colour B and ch 3, 2 dc in base of same st, then *dc in every st around to next corner, 3dc in corner* rep until you return to beg ch 3. Attach w slst to top of ch 3.

Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in base of same st, then *dc in every st around to next corner, 3dc in corner* rep until you return to beg ch 3. Attach w slst to top of ch 3. Bind off, weave in edges.

Enjoy!
