Crochet Bloodshot Eyeballs – Free Pattern

My Halloween wreath just wasn’t complete without these gross (and cute) eyeballs! They work up in a flash and are a MUST for any halloween decorations! Thank you to those that pointed out I hadn’t get written up this pattern! Enjoy!

Skill Level: Beginner

Notes:

This pattern is worked in rounds. The full green eyes are slightly larger and a second pattern for those are written below.

Abbreviations:

CH – chain

SC – single crochet

HDC – Half double crochet

Sc2Tog: Single crochet two together

St(s) – Stitch(es)

Size:

1.5-2.5in

Materials:

Pattern:

PATTERN 1 (Small – green iris)

With Black ch 2

Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, change to spring green (6)

Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around (12), on the last sc, change to white BEFORE you pull the green through the last loop. This will prevent the two colours from having an abrupt change in the iris.

Rnd 3: *2sc in next st, sc in the st after* repeat from * around (18)

Rnd 4-6: sc around (18). A trick here to make sure you’re finishing in the right space is to count off all 18 sts 3 times or place a stitch marker.

Rnd 7: *sc2tog, sc* repeat from * around (12)

Rnd 8: sc2tog around (6) – begin stuffing as you complete this round. Bind off and leave a long tail to attach to your wreath.

PATTERN 2 (Medium – white iris)

With Black ch 2

Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, change to white (6)

Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around (12), on the last sc, change to spring green BEFORE you pull the green through the last loop. This will prevent the two colours from having an abrupt change in the iris.

Rnd 3: *2sc in next st, sc in the st after* repeat from * around (18)

Rnd 4: *2sc in next st, sc in the next 2 st after* repeat from * around (22)

Rnd 5-7: sc around (22). A trick here to make sure you’re finishing in the right space is to count off all 18 sts 3 times or place a stitch marker.

Rnd 8: *sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts* repeat from * around (18)

Rnd 9: *sc2tog, sc* repeat from * around (12)

Rnd 10: sc2tog around (6) – begin stuffing as you complete this round. Bind off and leave a long tail to attach to your wreath.

Adding the bloodshot detail:

With cherry red and tapestry needle, embroider veins starting from the iris down halfway through the eyeball. I added 4 veins on each eye in a random zigzag pattern. There is no wrong way of doing this part… have fun with it!
