This crochet ghost garland pattern is one of my favorite Halloween makes — three adorable spooky boo ghosts that work up in under an hour each, beginner-friendly, and look absolutely darling strung up across your mantel, doorway, or bookshelf. The pattern includes three different ghost variations (Left, Right, and No-Tail) — two of each makes the perfect set of six for a proper ghost garland.

The crochet ghost garland pattern uses super bulky yarn and stitches you already know — if you can chain and single crochet, you can make these ghosts. Add googly eyes, black felt mouths, or just leave them spooky and silent. There are no rules for decorating these little guys.

Crochet Ghost Garland Pattern FAQ

Can I use a different weight yarn for this crochet ghost pattern?

Super bulky (#6) yarn gives the ghosts their chunky, squishy shape. You can try bulky (#5) weight with a slightly smaller hook — your finished ghosts will just be a bit smaller. Lighter weight yarns aren’t recommended for this pattern since the ghosts need structure to stand up as a garland.

How long does one ghost take to make?

About 45 minutes to an hour per ghost once you’ve got the rhythm. A full crochet ghost garland pattern set of 6 takes about a weekend of casual crochet — perfect for a spooky-movie marathon.

What’s the difference between the Left, Right, and No-Tail ghost?

The Left Boo has a wavy tail angled to the left, the Right Boo has a tail angled to the right, and the No-Tail Boo is a simple rounded ghost shape. Alternating all three across your garland gives it movement and visual interest — no two ghosts look the same.

Do I need to add eyes and a mouth?

Not at all! Plain white ghosts look sweetly spooky on their own. If you want faces, 20mm googly eyes are the fastest option, but black buttons give a more handmade look and black felt cut into small “O” shapes makes the cutest little ghost mouths.

Can I make this in other colors?

White is the classic ghost look for this crochet ghost garland pattern, but pastel pink, pale blue, or a soft sage make for an adorable “friendly ghost” garland. For a Halloween-specific palette, try orange and black ghosts or a mix of white and deep purple.
