Bobble St: Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through (three loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops. Repeat the previous step four more times so that you have five not-quite-complete dc stitches worked into the same stitch. There will be six loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all six loops. This closes your bobble crochet stitch.

Tips on Carrying Yarn:

When crocheting with two or more colors, you often carry the yarn that you’re not working with in current stitches – You carry the 2nd color until you need it again. This way you don’t have to fasten it off and rejoin a new strand each time you make a color change. In the pattern you will see a photo tutorial on how to ensure you’re creating the least visible carry possible.

In this variation, rows 4&8 will require you to carry the unused colour through the pattern. Here is what that will look like:

Once the second color has been attached, work all subsequent stitches over the working strand of the first colour – it will look something like this…

This may cause bunching of the 2nd color on the opposite side of the work – as photographed here:

To avoid this, pull the 2nd colour strand to pull out any bunching or slack, then continue to use the yarn as detailed in the pattern. This will ensure a clean color change without any joins!

We use this method for another baby blanket pattern – Buffalo Plaid. Check out this video tutorial!
