Rustic Crochet Cable Scarf – Free Crochet Pattern

Free pattern #FriYAY and on to the first pattern of the new year! This one was inspired by all of the folks that commented on the table runner pattern – saying that it would make a great scarf! I tried it out as a scarf when I was packing up the holiday decorations… it didn’t work so well so I adapted the pattern with a smaller gauge and a softer yarn. Materials:

Measurements:

Approx 8in wide by 80in long. You can extend the length of this pattern in increments of 8 rows detailed below.

Gauge:

Crochet Gauge: 17 sc and 19 rows with a 4.5 mm crochet hook

Abbreviations:

Ch = Chain(s)

Cont = Continue

Dc = Double crochet

Sc = Single crochet

Hdc = Half double crochet

Sl st = Slip stitch

St(s) = Stitch(es)

Yoh = Yarn over hook

Dcbp = Yoh and draw up a loop around post of next stitch at back of work, inserting hook from right to left. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.

Dcfp = Yoh and draw up a loop around post of next stitch at front of work, inserting hook from right to left. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.

Dtrfp = (Yoh) 2 times and draw up a loop around post of indicated stitch at front of work, inserting hook from right to left. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times.

Dcbp: Yoh and draw up loop from around the post of the next st at back of work…

Dcfp = Yoh and draw up a loop around post of next stitch at front of work…

Dtrfp = (Yoh) 3 times and draw up a loop around post of indicated stitch at front of work, inserting hook from right to left. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 4 times.

Ch 36.

Set up rows:

1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 3th ch from hook (counts as dc). 1 dc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. (34)

2nd row: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each of next 5 dc. 1 dcbp around each of next 2 dc. 1 hdc in each of next 5 dc. dcbp around each of next 10 dc. 1 hdc in each of next 5 dc. 1 dcbp around each of next 2 dc. 1 hdc in each of last 5 dc. Turn. (34)

Begin pattern repeat:

1st row: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. 1 dcfp around each of next 2 sts. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. dcfp around each of next 10 sts. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. 1 dcfp around each of next 2 sts. 1 hdc in each of last 5 hdc. Turn.

2nd row: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. 1 dcbp around each of next 2 sts. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. 1 dcbp around each of next 10 sts. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. 1 dcbp around each of next 2 sts. 1 hdc in each of last 5 hdc. Turn.

3rd row: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each of next 5 dc. 1 dcfp around each of next 2 sts. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. Skip next 5 sts. (1 dtrfp around next st) 5 times. Working behind sts just worked, 1 dtrfp around each of 5 skipped sts. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. 1 dcfp around each of next 2 sts. 1 hdc in each of last 5 hdc. Turn.

4th and 6th rows: As 2nd row.

5th and 7th rows: As 1st row.

8th row: As 2nd row.

Repeat rows 1-8 until you achieve your desired length.

Bind off, weave in ends.
