Check out this mid-weight baby blanket that is loaded with texture. This baby blanket is worked up using the Alpine Stitch – which we’ve featured as a Spotlight Stitch here! Once you get the hang of the pattern repeat, you’ll be looking for new ways to introduce this stitch in a bunch of your upcoming WIPs…. I certainly have. Pattern Notes:
This pattern can be increased/decreased in increments of 2 sts.
Measurements:
35in wide x 37in length
Materials:
- 4.5mm crochet hook (H)
- 2 balls of each Bernat Softee Baby in:
- Lavender
- Soft Lilac
- Pink
- Petuna
- Tapestry needle to weave in ends
Gauge:
17 DC, 19 rows = 4in
Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
Sc – single crochet
Dc – double crochet
St(s) – stitch(es)
FPTC: Front post triple crochet
BPTC: Back post triple crochet
Pattern:
With Lavender ch 137
Row 1: DC in the 3rd chain from hook and in each to end.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, SC in each stitch to end.
Row 3. Ch 2, turn. DD in first stitch, FPTC around the DC two rows below. DC in next st, then FPTC around the next DC two rows down. Alternate DCs and FPTCs to the end of the row, ending with a DC in the last stitch.
Row 4:. Ch 1, turn, SC in each stitch to end.
Row 5: Ch 2, turn, place one DC in each of the first 2 sts * FPTC around DC from two rows down, DC in next stitch * repeat between * * to end. DC in last stitch. (note that you should have two double crochets to start this row and two double crochets to finish this row)
Rows 2 – 5 complete the pattern repeat. Make sure to alternate the starting stitches every other DC/FPTC row so that they are always offset.
Changing colours:
Change colours every 6 rows according to the following stripe Pattern:

- Petunia
- Lavender
