I kid you not, I worked this up in 30 mins for my little guy. The large gauge makes this zip right on by. I sized this to my little one but the pattern is easily adjusted. Try it out and let me know what you think!
Pattern Notes:
This pattern is worked in rounds on a 6in circular needle.
Measurements:
Pattern below is written for 3-6moths. See size chart below. The pattern can be adjusted in 2 st increments.
Materials:
- 1 Ball of Bernat Softee Chunky yarn in Natural
- US 11 / 8mm circular needles
- Tapestry Needle
Gauge:
Knitting Gauge: 11 sts and 14 rows with a 8 mm (U.S. 11) knitting needle
Abbreviations:
K: Knit
P: Purl
K2tog: Knit 2 together
P2tog: Purl 2 together
K3tog: Knit 3 together
St(s): stitch(es)
Pattern:
Cast on 40,
Work Ribbing: Working in rounds, continue *K2 P2* around. Work in K2 P2 for 2 more rounds.
Body: Knit around. repeat until height reaches 1/2 in shorter than your desired hight. In my case, I’m making 3-6 months so I worked up until length from beg was 5.5in.
Begin crown: Round 1: *K3, k2tog* aroundRound 2: *K2, k2tog* around. Leave stitches on needles. Cut yarn with 18in tail and attach tapestry needle. Cut With tapestry needle, weave through all loops while removing loops from needles. Pull tightly to synch top closed. Weave in ends.
Ears (Make 2):
Cast on 7
Work stockinette stitch for 7 rows, ending with WS.
Row 8: p2tog, p to last 2 sts, p2tog
Row 9: knit
Repeat row 8 & 9 until there are 3 sts rem,
K3tog and bind off.
Assembly:
Attach ears on either side of the beanie as photographed. Enjoy!
