We extended our cabin trip and Ben was starting to feel left out watching me work on my own pair of socks — so I whipped up a version just for him. These Cabin Socks are worked toe-up with double crochet for the foot and leg, which means they work up significantly faster than the striped version. One color, simple construction, and so cozy. Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked from the toe up to the cuff. Take the time to make sure you get the snugness right in the toe — it really makes a huge impact on how the rest of the sock fits against your foot. It will seem too tight at first but trust me, it loosens as you work it up!

You can adjust the width of the sock in increments of 2 sts.

Toe

With grey, ch 10.

Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, continue to work next stitches on the opposite side of the ch, sc in each ch across. (18 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st. (22 sts)
Rnd 3: 2 sc in next st, sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in next st. (26 sts)
Rnd 4: 2 sc in next st, sc in next 11 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 11 sts, 2 sc in next st. (30 sts)

Begin testing the snugness of the toe on the tip of your toes — you want it to barely reach all 5 toes. If this fits, move on to Rnd 7.

Rnd 5: 2 sc in next st, sc in next 13 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 13 sts, 2 sc in next st. (34 sts)
Rnd 6: 2 sc in next st, sc in next 15 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 15 sts, 2 sc in next st. (38 sts)
Rnds 7–9: Sc in each sc around. (38 sts)
Rnd 10: Sc in next 10 sts, change to blue. (This partial round hides the colour change seam under the foot.)

Foot

Change colour and begin working the length of the foot.

Rnd 11: Ch 3, dc in every st around, join with a sl st to the top of your ch 3. Do not turn.

Repeat Rnd 11 until the foot portion reaches ¼” before your heel. Bind off.

Heel Opening

If you adjusted the toe size, see the adjustments in brackets below.

Rnd 1: Sk 10 sts [or ¼ of your remaining sts], dc in next 18 sts [or ½ of your remaining sts], ch 18 [or ½ of your remaining sts], join with a sl st to the top of the 1st dc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc across to ch, dc in the next 18 ch [or ½ of your remaining sts], join with a sl st to the top of the first dc. Bind off.

Leg

Rnd 1: Sk next 27 sts [or ¾ of your remaining sts], ch 3, dc in every st around returning to the back of the leg, join with a sl st to the top of your ch 3.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in every st around, join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3.

Work until the leg is 7″ long. Change to grey.

Cuff

Rnd 1: With grey, ch 2, dc in each st across, join with a sl st to the top of the ch 2.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, *FPDC, BPDC* repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the top of the ch 2.

Repeat Rnd 2 five more times, keeping FPDC aligned with previous FPDC and BPDC with BPDC. Bind off. Weave in ends.

Heel

With right side facing, join grey with sl st in the first st of the heel opening (the stitch at the very right, on the bottom of the opening).

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each st to chs, work over chs. Do not join — heel is worked in a spiral. (38 sc)
Rnd 2 (dec): (Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in next 17) × 2. (36 sts)
Rnds 3–12 (dec): (Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc to next dec) × 2. (18 sc remain after last round — 9 on top, 9 on bottom)

Finish off keeping a long tail to sew heel shut. Sew heel shut. Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I adjust the size?
Yes! You can adjust the width in increments of 2 sts. The foot length is always fit to size — just keep working until you reach ¼” before the heel. See the adjustments in brackets throughout the pattern.

What yarn did you use?
I used Bernat Softee Baby in Flannel and Blue Jeans — yes, it’s technically a baby yarn but it works beautifully for adult socks! The softness makes them incredibly comfortable to wear around the house.

Is this pattern beginner-friendly?
This pattern is rated Intermediate — you’ll need to be comfortable with working in the round and basic colour changes. If you’ve made a hat or a simple amigurumi you’ll be fine!

What’s the difference between these and the Striped Socks?
The Cabin Socks use double crochet for the foot and leg which makes them work up faster and gives a slightly different texture. The Softee Striped Socks use a seed stitch stripe pattern — they take a little longer but are absolutely stunning. I’d say these are the speedy everyday version and the striped ones are the showstopper!
