Why we made the Rainbow Crochet Crib Blanket Pattern:

Children are naturally drawn to the unique textures and sensory experiences that bobble stitch blankets offer. Rainbow Crochet Crib Blanket Pattern Notes:

This pattern works up from the center of the rainbow out to the edges. It uses 5 different colour swaps and you can easily adjust the pattern to fit the color pallet of your choice. 

• You will be alternating between increase rows and bobble rows. 
• On Increase rows (RIGHT SIDE) – you are increasing stitches every other row, adding 8 total stitches each row. 
• On bobble rows (WRONG SIDE) – we will offset starting bobbles to give an evenly distributed bobble profile. 

Tips on Changing Colors:

1. Finish the Last Stitch with the Old Color:
   • Work until there are two loops on the hook with the old color.
2. Yarn Over with the New Color:
   • Before completing the last stitch with the old color, yarn over with the new color.
3. Pull Through Loops:
   • Finish the last stitch by pulling through the last two loops with the new color.
4. Secure the Old Color:
   • Once you’ve changed colors, secure the yarn of the old color by either crocheting over the tail or by weaving it in later.

Measurements: Rainbow Crochet Crib Blanket

The Crochet Crib Blanket Pattern is written for a 34x45in blanket but can be easily modified by adding additional bands of colors. Each additional color added to the rainbow will add 7in to the width and 3.5in to the length.

Materials:

• #4 Medium yarn in 5 Rainbow Shades. I used the following colours in this order:
• 2x LILY SUGAR’N CREAM SUPER SIZE YARN, ORCHID (113g / 4 oz, 184 meters / 200 yards)
• 2x LILY SUGAR’N CREAM SUPER SIZE YARN, CORNFLOWER (113g / 4 oz, 184 meters / 200 yards)
• 2x LILY SUGAR’N CREAM SUPER SIZE YARN, JADE MIST (113g / 4 oz, 184 meters / 200 yards)
• 2x LILY SUGAR’N CREAM SUPER SIZE YARN, YELLOW (113g / 4 oz, 184 meters / 200 yards)
• 2x LILY SUGAR’N CREAM SUPER SIZE YARN, CORAL ROSE  (113g / 4 oz, 184 meters / 200 yards)
• 5.0 mm (U.S. H/8) crochet hook 
• Tapestry needle

Gauge:

 4″ x 4″ (10cm x 10cm) 13 sc x 14 r with 5 mm (US H-8) Crochet Hook

Abbreviations: 

Bobble St: Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through (three loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops. Repeat the previous step four more times so that you have five not-quite-complete dc stitches worked into the same stitch. There will be six loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all six loops. This closes your bobble crochet stitch.

Row 1 (set up row): sc in the 2nd ch from hook to last ch, 8 sc in last ch, sc along the other side of the foundation chain to last 2 ch, sc2tog, ch 1 turn (183 sc)

Row 2 (Bobble Row A): sc in first 7 sts, *mb, sc in next 7 sts*, repeat within ** to last 8 sts, MB, sc to end, ch 2, turn

Row 3 (Increase Row): hdc in the first 88 sts, 2 hdc in each of the next 8 sc, hdc to end, ch 2 turn (191 hdc)

Row 4 (Bobble Row B): sc in first 3 sts, *mb, sc in next 7 sts*, repeat within ** to last 4 sts, MB, sc to last st, ch 2 turn.

Repeat rows 35-43, remembering to increase the stitches highlighted in red between the 2 hdcs in increase rows (row 45 should have 20 sts between as example).
