Crochet Flower Coaster & Trivet Set — Free Easy Pattern
If you’ve been looking for a quick crochet project that adds real personality to your kitchen or coffee table, this crochet flower coaster and trivet set is going to feel like a perfect match. Worked up in chunky T-shirt yarn with a 9mm hook, the whole set comes together in just an afternoon — and the chunky scalloped petals give it a modern, sculptural feel that goes beautifully with farmhouse, boho, or coastal home styles.
I designed this as a coordinated set: four 5-inch flower coasters and one matching 10-inch trivet, all worked in the same simple petal-edged construction. It’s beginner-friendly, uses up T-shirt yarn beautifully, and makes one of those handmade gifts people actually keep on display.

Pattern details
- Skill level: Beginner-friendly / Easy
- Finished sizes: Coaster 5″ (13 cm) diameter · Trivet 10″ (25 cm) diameter
- Stitch type: Worked in joined rounds; uses hdc, dc, sl st, and chains
- Gauge: 3 rounds = 5″ (13 cm) for coaster · 6 rounds = 10″ (25 cm) for trivet (gauge isn’t critical)
- Construction: Center ring → increase rounds → petal edging
Materials
- Yarn: T-shirt yarn (Super Bulky / #6) — I used Circulo T-Shirt Yarn in Navy. You’ll need approximately 15-20 yards per coaster and 40-50 yards for the trivet. One 153-yard skein is enough to make the full set.
- 9.0mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle (tapestry needle) for weaving in ends
- Scissors
Pattern notes — read first!
- This pattern is worked in joined rounds. Always join to the top of the first hdc to close each round unless otherwise noted.
- The center ring is formed with 10 hdc worked directly into the 2nd ch from the hook. Tighten the slip knot after Round 1 to close the center hole.
- Petal edging is created with 5 dc shells separated by skipped stitches. Be sure to align these evenly around for a symmetrical floral effect.
- T-shirt yarn can vary in stretch and thickness, so your results may differ slightly based on brand or tension.
- To ensure the right final size, work with a loose tension or consider using a 10mm or larger hook.
- Blocking is generally not required because of how sturdy T-shirt yarn is, but you can steam block lightly if you want to help the petals lie flat.
- The hanging loop on the trivet is optional — omit the chain loop if you prefer a flat finish.

Finishing
Weave in all your tails using a yarn needle, hiding them inside the dense T-shirt yarn stitches. The thickness of the yarn means your ends should stay tucked away neatly without any extra fuss.
If your petals are sitting a little uneven, give them a gentle steam block to help them lie flat. Hang the trivet from the chain loop on a kitchen hook when not in use, or layer the coaster set as a styled stack on your coffee table or open shelf.
