Learning to make the crochet mixed cluster blanket can be a rewarding experience.
For those new to crochet, the crochet mixed cluster blanket offers a great starting point.
The mixed cluster stitch is created over two rows. The pattern’s signature look comes from changing colors every two rows in increasing intervals. You can use the color sequence I’ve listed below, or design your own — just make sure to change colors at the end of every second row.
Tip: If you want a wider or narrower blanket, adjust your starting chain by any multiple of 3 stitches. Just check your gauge first to make sure you’ll get the size you’re hoping for.
Crochet Mixed Cluster Blanket — full pattern
Foundation: Ch 81.
Row 1: Sc in the second chain from the hook. Sc in each chain across the row. (80 sc)
Row 2: Ch 2 and turn. To work the first mixed cluster: YO, insert your hook into the first stitch, YO and pull through, YO and pull through 2 loops only. YO and skip the next stitch. In the next stitch, insert your hook, YO and pull through, YO and pull through 1 loop. YO, insert your hook into the same stitch, YO and pull through, YO and pull through 1 loop. YO and pull through all 6 loops on your hook. Ch 1 to close the cluster.
In the same space where you ended the first mixed cluster, repeat the cluster sequence. Continue working mixed clusters across the row. On the very last cluster of the row, omit the closing ch 1 and instead work a Dc, pulling through — change colors at this point before completing the stitch.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 in the color sequence below until you reach 91 total cluster blocks (or your desired length).
Color sequence (each block = 2 rows)
- 1 grey
- 3 white
- 2 grey
- 5 white
- 3 grey
- 7 white
- 4 grey
- 9 white
- 5 grey
- 11 white
- 6 grey
- 13 white

- 15 white
= 91 total cluster blocks
Finishing Crochet Mixed Cluster Blanket
Fasten off and weave in all ends with your tapestry needle. For a polished finish, lightly steam block the blanket so the cluster stitches lay evenly and the edges don’t curl. Lay flat to dry.
