This Star of David crochet pattern is one of those projects that looks far more elegant than the time it actually takes — a quick, beautiful 6-point star that works up in just minutes, made from two simple triangles overlapped to create the classic shape. It’s perfect as a Hanukkah ornament, a decorative embellishment on Hanukkah pillows or table runners, a gift topper, or a small handmade keepsake to share with friends and family. ✡️

I originally made this for our own Christmukkah tree (yes, we have one of those!) when I needed one final piece of flare for a Hanukkah project. It came together so quickly and so cleanly that it’s now the pattern I reach for any time I need a Star of David — whether for an ornament, a place setting, or stitched onto a finished piece as detail.

The whole pattern is just two triangles overlapped. That’s it. If you can chain and half-double crochet, you can make this Star of David crochet pattern.

Why you’ll love this pattern

  • Beginner-friendly — only chain, half double crochet, and slip stitch
  • Works up in minutes — each triangle takes around 5–10 minutes
  • Endlessly versatile — ornament, garland, gift topper, place setting, embellishment
  • Uses minimal yarn — perfect for stash-busting or scrap projects
  • Customizable size — adjust your starting chain to make smaller or larger stars

Abbreviations

Ch: Chain · Sl st: Slip stitch · HDC: Half double crochet · DC: Double crochet

Star of David crochet pattern — written instructions

Make 2 triangles. Each triangle is worked in one round.

Foundation: Ch 30; join with sl st in the first ch to form a large ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, hdc in the same ch, hdc in the next 4 ch, [(hdc, dc, ch 2, sl st in last st, hdc) in next ch, hdc in next 9 chs] twice, (hdc, dc, ch 2, sl st in last st, hdc) in next ch, hdc in next 4 chs; join with sl st in the top of the first hdc.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for joining. Repeat for the second triangle.

Assembly

Lay one triangle flat with the points oriented upward. Lay the second triangle on top, rotated 180° (points facing downward), so the two triangles overlap to form a 6-point star. With your tapestry needle and the long tail, weave the two triangles together at each intersection point to secure them. Weave in any remaining ends.

That’s it — your Star of David is done. ✡️
