This C2C crochet dump truck blanket pattern was made for Hudson — and it’s been one of the most fun projects I’ve ever designed. There is something so satisfying about watching a pixel graph come to life row by row, and when that image is a big bold dump truck in Bernat Blanket yarn? It is squishy, chunky, and works up so much faster than you’d think. I finished mine over 4 evenings, promise! Whether you’re making it as a play mat, a kids throw, or a construction-themed nursery statement piece — this one always gets a reaction. 🚧

Pattern Notes

This is a simple C2C (corner to corner) pattern with 4 colour changes. C2C is a really fun technique once you get the rhythm — you work diagonally across the blanket building up small pixel squares, which is how the dump truck image emerges row by row.

One important tip before you start: make bobbins. With 4 colour changes, managing your yarn without bobbins will get tangled very quickly. I thought I could skip that step and I got myself into a real mess! Take the extra 10 minutes to wind your bobbins before you cast on — you will thank yourself later.

When referring to the chart, start at the bottom left corner of the grid. To change colours cleanly, work to the last 2 loops on hook, yarn over with the new colour, and pull through both loops to complete the stitch. This gives you a crisp, clean colour change every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know C2C to make this?

Basic C2C knowledge is helpful but not required — the PDF includes clear instructions and I have a full C2C tutorial here on the blog that walks you through the technique from scratch before you start.

What yarn do I need?

Bernat Blanket yarn is my top recommendation — it’s super bulky, incredibly squishy, and comes in a huge range of colours. You’ll need approximately 4–5 skeins across your colour choices depending on how much of each colour appears in the design.

Can I change the colours?

Absolutely — the pixel graph works in any colour combination. Navy and yellow is a classic construction look, but this blanket is just as stunning in any colours that match your child’s room.

How long does it take to make?

I finished mine over 4 evenings using Bernat Blanket yarn and a 9mm hook. Super bulky yarn with a large hook means this grows much faster than it looks — it’s a very satisfying project to watch come together.

What does C2C mean?

C2C stands for corner to corner — a crochet technique where you work diagonally across the blanket building up small pixel squares. It’s perfect for graphghan designs like this dump truck because it creates a crisp pixelated image. Check out my full C2C tutorial here if you’d like to learn the technique first.
