Measurements:

Each piece is approx. 4in tall. 

Materials:

  • 1 Ball 120 g / 4.2 oz, 254 meters / 232 yards of #3 Medium yarn of each – this will make approx. 4 cookies, double if making the entire set.
    • Cookie: Light brown
    • Icing: white/off-white
    • As photographed – Bernat Softee Baby Cotton in Sand (cookie) and Cotton (frosting)
  • Size 4.0 mm (U.S. G/6) 
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:

  • Crochet Gauge: 16 sc and 20 rows with a 4.0 mm (U.S. G/6) crochet hook

Mitten:

Cookie: make 2

With light brown:

Starting at Cuff, ch 12

Row 1: HDC in 2nd ch from hook across, ch 1, turn (11 hdc)

Row 2-3: HDC in each st across 

Row 4: HDC in each st to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in each st to end, ch 1, turn (13 hdc)

Row 5: 2 HDC in each of the first 2 sts, hdc to end, ch 1, turn (15 hdc)

Row 6: HDC in first 10 sts, leaving 5 sts unworked (we will come back to this row to work the thumb), ch 1, turn (10 hdc, 5 unworked sts)

Row 7-9: HDC in each st across, ch 1, turn (10 sts)

Row 10: HDC2tog, hdc to final 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn (8 sts)

Row 11: HDC2tog, hdc to final 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn (6 sts)

Row 12: HDC2tog, hdc to final 2 sts, hdc2tog, bind off (4 sts)

Work Thumb:

Return back to row 6.

Join with a slst to first unworked st. HDC in same stich and remaining sts to end, ch 1 turn (5 sts)

Row 7: HDC2TOG, hdc, HDC, HDC2 TOG, ch 1 turn (3 sts)

Row 8: HDC3TOG bind off

Edging:

First Mitten: join with a stst to bottom left corner of cuff, sc along cuff edge, 2 sc in the corner st, evenly space sc along side of mitten, sc along the top, evenly space sc along the remaining side until you reach the thumb, sc2tog where the thumb and mitten intersect, evenly space sc around the thumb, placing 3 sc at tip of thumb to prevent bunching, evenly space sc to return to edge start. 

Second Mitten: flip mitten to opposite side as first edged mitten, repeat edging as detailed above above.  Flipping the mitten over will allow both sides to line up with sc facing outward when joining them together. 

Frosting: make 1

With White:

To start, ch 10

Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook to end, ch 1, turn (9 hdc)

Row 2-6: hdc in each st to end

Row 7-9: hdc2tog, hdc to final 2 sts, hdc2tog end with 3 sts

Edging: continue along the side edge of frosting, evenly space sc along the side edge, 2 sc in corner st, sc along bottom edge, 2 sc along right side edge, (2dc, 3 tr, 2d) in next row above last sc (this is the thumb portion of the frosting), skip one row above last worked st, evenly space sc back to top of frosting. 

Bind off, leaving a long tail to attach to cookie. 

Assembly:

Stack both cookies, align corners and sides. Starting at any corner, slst in BLO through BOTH cookies, continue with slst in blo in all sts in edging around. Bind off, weave in ends. Center frosting on the cookie, you should be able to see an even border of the cookie all the way around the frosting. Sew frosting to cookie with tapestry needle. 

Bind off, weave in all ends and ENJOY!
