Materials:

  • 1 Ball 120 g / 4.2 oz, 254 meters / 232 yards of #3 Medium yarn of each – this will make approx. 4 cookies, double if making the entire set.
    • Cookie: Light brown
    • Icing: white/off-white
    • As photographed – Bernat Softee Baby Cotton in Sand (cookie) and Cotton (frosting)
  • Size 4.0 mm (U.S. G/6) 
  • Tapestry needle

  • Crochet Gauge: 16 sc and 20 rows with a 4.0 mm (U.S. G/6) crochet hook

With light brown:

To start, ch 17:

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook to end, ch 1, turn (16 sts)

Row 2: Hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. 

Row 3: Hdc in each st across, bind off, turn. 

Row 4: sk first 2 sts, attach yarn with a slst, ch 1, hdc in same st, hdc in next 11 sts, ch 1, turn (12 hdc and 2 unworked sts at either end)

Row 5-8: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn (12 sts)

Row 9: hdc2tog, hdc to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn (10 sts)

Row 10: hdc2tog, hdc to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn (8 sts)

Row 11: hdc2tog, hdc to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn (6 sts)

Edging: beginning along the top of the beanie: slst over first 2 sts, (slst, hdc, 3 dc) all within next st, (3 dc, hdc, slst) all within next st, slst over next 2 sts – “pom” made, continue along the side edge of hat. Evenly space sc along the side edge of the hat, approx. 1 sc for every row. Sc2tog where the body of the hat meets the brim, sc in unworked sts from row 4, 2 sc in corner, evenly space sc along the side edge of brim, 2 sc in corner, sc in each st along bottom edge, 2 sc in corner, evenly space sc along the side edge of brim, 2 sc in corner, sc in each unworked st from row 4, sc2tog where the brim meets the body of the hat, evenly space sc along remaining side edge of hat returning to beginning. Bind off.

Frosting: make 1

With White:

To start, ch 13:

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook to end, ch 1, turn (12 sts)

Row 2: Hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. 

Row 3: Hdc2tog, hdc in each st across to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn (10 sts)

Row 4-5: hdc in each st across 

Row 6: Hdc2tog, hdc in each st across to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn (8 sts)

Row 7: Hdc2tog, hdc in each st across to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn (6 sts)

Row 8: Hdc2tog, hdc in each st across to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, do not turn. Continue to edging (4 sts)

Edging: evenly space sc along the side edge, sc in each st along bottom row, evenly space sc along remaining side edge, sc in each st along the top.

Bind off, leaving a long tail to attach to cookie.

Assembly:

Stack both cookies, align corners and sides. Starting at any corner, slst in BLO through BOTH cookies, continue with slst in blo in all sts in edging around. Bind off, weave in ends. Center frosting on the cookie, you should be able to see an even border of the cookie all the way around the frosting. Sew frosting to cookie with tapestry needle. 

Bind off, weave in all ends and ENJOY!
