Colour Ideas

The classic Aran, Burgundy, and Light Sage combination is timeless — but the beauty of this pattern is how well it works in any colour palette. Here are some of my favourites that makers have tried:

  • 🤍 Winter white — all three trees in cream or white for a elegant, frosty look
  • 🟢 Classic green trio — different shades of green from light to dark
  • 🩷 Blush and gold — dusty pink with a metallic gold accent yarn
  • 🖤 Moody and dramatic — charcoal, navy, and forest green
  • 🎨 Velvet yarn — any colour in velvet yarn creates an incredibly luxurious finish

How to Decorate Your Trees

The trees look beautiful completely plain — but decorating them takes them to a whole new level. Here’s exactly how I do it:

Adding Lights

Use a battery operated 50ct fairy light pack and allocate approximately 25 lights for the large tree, 15 for the medium, and 10 for the small. Push the lights up inside the tree from the bottom and poke them out through the stitches in a random pattern. This part takes a little massaging — the lights will want to poke all the way through which doesn’t look as nice, so gently position them so just the bulb tip shows. If you’re displaying the three trees together you only need one light pack for the whole set.

Adding Toppers

I used repurposed Christmas jewellery and ornaments as toppers — a bobby pin through the back of the ornament pushed into the top of the tree holds it perfectly. Star ornaments, small bows, or even a loop of ribbon all work beautifully. No rules here — go wild and make it your own! 🌟

Assembly Notes

If you’re not decorating the trees, simply weave in your ends and enjoy! They should stand on their own without any stuffing. If they need a little extra support, a small amount of polyfil in the base helps them stand more firmly. Always add lights before toppers — it’s much easier to position everything that way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the trees really stand on their own?

Yes — the construction of the pattern creates a naturally stable base. Most makers find they stand perfectly without any stuffing. If yours need a little extra support, a small amount of polyfil in the base does the trick.

What size are the finished trees?

The exact finished sizes are included in the PDF pattern. The three sizes are designed to look beautiful displayed as a graduating set — tall, medium, and small.

Can I use a different yarn?

Absolutely — any #4 worsted weight yarn works perfectly. Velvet yarn in particular creates a stunning result. Several makers have also used bulky yarn for a chunkier, more oversized version which looks incredible.

Is this suitable for beginners?

Yes — the bobble stitch is explained step by step in the pattern. If you can single crochet and double crochet you have everything you need. The bobble stitch itself is satisfying to learn and once you get the rhythm you’ll fly through the rounds.

How do I get the pattern after purchasing?

It’s an instant PDF download — available immediately after your Etsy purchase in your account under Purchases and Reviews. No waiting, no shipping.
