Lil Monsters Bumble Bee Pumpkin – Free Knit & Crochet Patterns
This crochet bumble bee pumpkin pattern is the sweetest little member of my Lil Monsters Pumpkin Patch — a yellow and black striped pumpkin with tiny antennae and big googly eyes. It’s part of a free series of 8 costumed pumpkin patterns I designed to celebrate Halloween (and the in-between fall-into-Halloween moment). 🐝
The Bumble Bee was actually a last-minute addition to the patch — but it might be the one I love most. It’s less spooky-Halloween and more cute-fall, which means it works as decor right through October and well into November. Perfect for adding a pop of cheerful color to your fall display.
This pattern includes the Bumble Bee costume modifications for the simple pumpkin base, plus the antennae instructions and assembly steps. The full free pattern is below.

Start with the pumpkin base
Every costume in the Lil Monsters Pumpkin Patch starts with the same simple pumpkin base. The Bumble Bee just changes how you color the stripes during the base, so you’ll want the full base instructions handy as you go.

Crochet bumble bee pumpkin pattern — written instructions
Pumpkin base modification (stripes)
Follow the simple pumpkin base pattern, with these color changes:
- Begin with yellow and work 2 rows
- Switch to black for 2 rows
- Continue alternating colors every 2 rows, ending with yellow at row 18
- Work the remaining rows of the pumpkin base in black
Complete the pumpkin base and stump per the main pattern, then move on to the antennae below.
Antennae (make 2)
Antennae are worked in continuous rounds from the top down. The yellow ball forms the bee-bump on top of each antenna; the black tube forms the stem.
With yellow, ch 3, join with sl st in the first ch to form a loop.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 6 sc within loop. Continue working in rounds without joining.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: 2 sc in each st around. (24 sc)
Rnd 4: Sc2tog over the next two sc, repeat around. (12 sc)
Rnd 5: Sc2tog around. (6 sc)
At this point, lightly stuff the “ball” with polyfil. Then change to black.
Rnds 6–12: Sc in each st around. (6 sc per round)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing the antenna to the pumpkin.
Optional: For antennae that stand upright, slip a small length of floral wire down the center of the black tube before attaching.
Assembly
- Attach the googly eyes with the hot glue gun, centered on the front of the pumpkin (just below the stump).
- Sew the antennae evenly spaced in line with the eyes, attaching each one to either side of the pumpkin stump. Use the long tails from each antenna and a tapestry needle to secure them firmly.
- Adjust as needed — bend the antennae slightly outward if you’ve used floral wire, or let them flop naturally for a softer look.
