Lil Monsters Spider Pumpkin – Free Knit & Crochet Pattern
This crochet spider pumpkin pattern turns a simple pumpkin into a friendly little eight-legged monster — a member of my Lil Monsters Pumpkin Patch series. The legs are surprisingly easy (just simple tubes) and assembly takes minutes. 🕷️
I love this one because it’s the perfect balance of “Halloween enough” without being scary — the chunky little legs and big googly eyes make it feel charming rather than creepy. Kids especially love this one. It’s also one of the quickest costumes in the patch since the pumpkin base doesn’t need any color modifications — you make a plain black (or dark) pumpkin and just add the legs.
The pattern is written for both knit AND crochet. Pictured in knit, but the crochet modifications are included so you can stitch with whatever craft you prefer.

Crochet spider pumpkin pattern — written instructions
Pumpkin base
Follow the simple pumpkin base pattern in black with no modifications. Make the pumpkin base and stump per the main pattern, then move on to the legs below.
Legs (make 8)
The legs are worked flat as small rectangles, then folded over and seamed into tubes. Make 8 total.
Knit version:
- With black yarn, cast on 17 sts
- Rows 1–2: Knit
- Bind off
- Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise and sew the long edge together to create a tube. Leave the short ends open. Repeat 7 more times for 8 legs total
Crochet version:
- With black yarn, ch 17
- Rows 1–2: Sc in each st across, ch 1, turn (16 sc per row)
- Fasten off
- Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise and sew the long edge together to create a tube. Leave the short ends open. Repeat 7 more times for 8 legs total
Assembly
- Attach the googly eyes with the hot glue gun, centered on the front of the pumpkin (just below the stump).
- Position the legs. You’ll attach 4 legs along each side of the pumpkin, evenly spaced from front to back.
- Sew each leg in place using the tapestry needle and a long tail of black yarn. Anchor each leg firmly so it stays put when displayed or moved.
- Bend the legs slightly outward and downward for that classic spider posture, or leave them straight for a softer look.
