Lil Monsters Devil Pumpkin – Free Crochet Pattern
This crochet devil pumpkin pattern turns a cherry-red pumpkin into a cheeky little devil — complete with two pointed black horns and a signature curly devil tail that wraps around from the back to the front of the pumpkin. It’s part of my Lil Monsters Pumpkin Patch series. 😈
The Devil is one of the most fun costumes to display because the tail naturally wraps around the pumpkin like a real devil’s tail — black tube with a pointy red tip. It’s a small detail that makes a big visual impact when grouped with the other Lil Monsters.
This blog post includes the crochet version of the pattern. The knit version is available as a bonus in the Lil Monsters Pumpkin Patch Bundle on Etsy.

Why you’ll love this crochet devil pumpkin pattern

Crochet devil pumpkin pattern — written instructions
Custom rounded stump
The Devil uses a custom rounded stump for a polished, finished look on top of his head.
With Coffee, ch 4. Join with sl st in the first ch to form a loop.
Round 1: 6 sc within the loop. (6 sts)
Round 2: Sc in back loops only of each st around (this creates a small ridge). (6 sts)
Rounds 3–7: Sc in each st around. (6 sts per round)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Lightly stuff with polyfil and attach to the top center of the pumpkin.
Horns (make 2)
Each horn is a small black cone worked in continuous rounds with gradual increases.
With Black, ch 3. Join with sl st in the first ch to form a loop.
Rnd 1: 3 sc within the loop. (3 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (6 sts)
Rnd 3: Sc in each st around. (6 sts)
Rnd 4: *Sc, 2 sc in next st* around. (9 sts)
Rnd 5: Sc in each st around. (9 sts)
Rnd 6: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* around. (12 sts)
Rnd 7: Sc in each st around. (12 sts)
Rnd 8: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st* around. (15 sts)
Rnd 9: Sc in each st around. (15 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Lightly stuff each horn with polyfil before attaching.
Tail tube
The tail is the Devil’s signature feature — a black tube that curls around from the back to the front of the pumpkin.
With Black, ch 3. Join with sl st in the first ch to form a loop.
Rnd 1: 6 sc within the loop. (6 sts)
Rnd 2 and onward: Sc in each st around. (6 sts per round)
Repeat Round 2 until the tail tube measures 4″ long. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Tail tip (the pointed red end)
The pointed red tip transforms the simple black tube into a proper devil tail.
With Cherry Red, ch 3.
(9 sts)
Fold the piece in half flat. Sc both sides together along the open edge to close. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Assembly
- Attach the rounded stump to the top center of the pumpkin using the long tail and tapestry needle.
- Attach each horn to either side of the stump, slightly angled outward like real devil horns.
- Sew the red tail tip to the open end of the black tail tube. Use the long tails to anchor it firmly so the tip doesn’t pull off.
- Attach the tail to the pumpkin. Sew the unfinished end of the black tube to the center of the back of the pumpkin. The tail should be long enough to curl around the side and reach the front for that classic devil-tail look.
- Adjust the curl — gently shape the tail by hand to drape naturally around the pumpkin.
- Optional: embroider a face on the front of the pumpkin if you’d like — a few simple eyes and a smirk give the Devil personality without taking away from his cheeky vibe.
